The red/orange sandals are similar to the ones I made before (Pink Summer; Gift for a Girl).  The pink sandals have a different construction, with a heart decoration.  (Both were improvised; no pattern).

Las sandalias rojo/naranja sin similares a las que hice previamente (Pink Summer; Gift for a Girl).  Las rosadas fueron hechas con una diferente construcción, y tienen un detalle de corazón.  (Sin patrón; ambos fueron improvisados)

Motif Tablecloth

The crochet tablecloth for my dinner table is finally finished…
Finalmente el mantel en ganchillo para mi comedor está terminado…










This project started as a table runner, but grew into a full table cloth.  It is made with fine cotton, in double thread, hook 3.5 mm.  I used a motif by Pierrot (Gosyo Co.), which I found in Ravelry: 665mf Cotton Neat Motif
I made the centers in Autumn colors, and the last row in cream, which gives it a bit of a polka-dot effect.  The border is improvised. It has become a statement piece in my dining room, and I love it.  

Al principio, comencé este proyecto como un centro de mesa, pero me gustó tanto que decidí hacer un mantel entero.  Utilicé un algodón fino (doble hilo) y un gancho de 3.5 mm.  La aplicación que utilicé es de un sitio japonés, Pierrot Gosyo, cuyo enlace se encuentra en Ravelry: 665mf Cotton Neat Motif. 
Para el centro de las aplicaciones utilicé colores otoñales, y todo el fondo lo hice en color crema.  El borde lo improvisé.  El mantel resultó muy vistoso, y me gusta mucho como se luce en mi comedor.

Time to Knit: 2 WIPs

After an overload of crochet (finishing my huge crochet tablecloth), now it is time to pick up my knitting needles.  Here are two projects I am working on:
Luego de una sobredosis de ganchillo (con mi mantel enorme), estoy lista para trabajar en dos agujas.  Estos son dos proyectos en progreso…  
  
a. Cotton Shawl:with mixed stripes in blue, white, red, and grey.  I am happily experimenting with a new pattern (Josephine Shawl, found in Ravelry).  Thanks for the tip, Carmen ;-)
a.  Chal de algodón: con franjas mixtas en colores: azul, blanco, gris y rojo. Estoy probando un nuevo patrón (Chal Josefina), gracias a la referencia de Carmen, de Café & Puntadas. ¡Muchas gracias, amiga!





b. And here is the beginning of a Cotton Top.  It will be a new version of the top I made for my sister: Cotton Experiment.  I am making this one in different shades of green.  But this time I am making a kind of an experiment…I started the top part in crochet, and decided to knit the rest. 
b.  Y este es el comienzo de una blusa en algodón.  Es una nueva versión de la blusa que le hice a mi hermana: Experimento en Algodón.  Ahora estoy usando varios tonos verdes.  Pero en esta ocasión lo haré con una variación: la parte de arriba es en ganchillo, y el resto lo haré en dos agujas.

Polka-Dot Dress

And here is the third and final dress for my friend’s daughter (check the first two here: SummerDress #1, in bright pink ; Summer Dress #2, in turquoise)…
Este es último vestido que le hice a la hija de una querida amiga (pueden ver los otros acá: Vestido veraniego #1, en rosado; vestido veraniego #2, en turquesa)…







This one was made with a fabric that has green polka-dots over a lavender background.  The crochet top is all in bright green.  The seamstress made the skirt and joined it to the crochet top.  And she made the cutest bows with the leftover fabric, which we later attached in the shoulder area.

My friend sent me the following pictures of her daughter wearing the dress.  Doesn’t she look adorable?

La tela tiene lunares verdes, y el fondo en color lavanda.  La blusa está hecha en ganchillo, toda en verde.  La costurera cosió la falda y la unió a la blusa de crochet.  También hizo estas lindas moñas con la tela que sobró, las cuales las cosimos en el área del hombro. 

Mi amiga me envió estas fotos de su hija luciendo el vestido. ¿Acaso no se mira primorosa?

Mixing Techniques

A little while ago, I made a crochet top for my sister:  Cotton Experiment.  Now I had to make one for myself.  But I decided to make it with a twist: the top part in crochet, and the rest in knit.  It was a bit of a risk, but it worked…
Hace poco hice una blusa de ganchillo para mi hermana: Experimentando con Algodón.  Luego me dieron ganas de hacer uno para mí.  Pero en esta ocasión pensé hacerle una variación, combinando ganchillo con tejido en dos agujas.  Era un riesgo, pero me alegro decir que funcionó…










I first made the crochet part (in turquoise).  Then I picked up stitches on the bottom  part, and knitted down on the round, with circular knitting needles.  All are knit sts, except for the purl row when changing colors, and the final rib border.  I am so happy with the results that I am already planning on making another one…with a few changes, of course ;-)

Primero tejí la parte de arriba en ganchillo.  Luego saqué puntos de la parte de abajo para montarlos en las agujas de punto.  Tejí todos los puntos derechos, excepto la hilera del cambio de color que hice en revés, y el borde final en resorte.  Estoy tan satisfecha con los resultados que ya estoy planeando hacer otro…con unas pequeñas variaciones, por supuesto ;-)

Polka-Dot Blanket

It is time to show you a new blanket, and this one is very special:  It is a Polka-Dot Blanket…
Llegó el momento de mostrarles una nueva manta, y esta es muy especial: es una Manta a Lunares…





The idea for this blanket was born because my mom wanted to make something to match these polka-dot flannel receiving blankets.  I suggested that she alternated plain granny squares with circle-to-square granny motifs…and it worked! 
La idea de esta manta nació porque mi mamá quería hacer algo que combinara con unas franelitas de lunares que tenía.  Yo le sugerí que hiciera una manta alternando cuadros de la abuelita con cuadros con un círculo en medio…y funcionó. 




The squares are sewn together, only on the back loop (using “the whipped stitch joining” method).  The all-white border gives it a special touch of elegance.  I really love this blanket; it is simple and classic, yet modern.
Los cuadros luego se cosen con aguja de mano (sólo tomando el punto de atrás).  El borde en color blanco le da un toque de elegancia.  Realmente me gusta como quedó esta manta, y es fácil de hacer.

WIP: African Flowers

It is time to start a new baby blanket…
Es tiempo de comenzar una nueva manta para bebé…




I have always wanted to make a blanket with African Flowers, and I finally decided to start one.  I will using a DK yarn (Dora), with 4 mm hook.  I will be using these colors (shown in photo), and the background will be all in white.  
How fun it is to start a new project!

Siempre he querido hacer una manta con la Flor Africana, y finalmente decidí comenzar una.  Estaré usando una lana liviana (Dora) con un ganchillo de 4 mm.  Estaré usando los colores que muestro en la foto de arriba, y todo el fondo será en blanco.  
¡Qué emocionante iniciar un nuevo proyecto!

Maritime Josephine

Lots of Blue, a good amount of red, all balanced with white, and a bit of grey—
these are the colors of my new cotton shawl…
Azul, blanco, rojo y un poco de gris…éstos son los colores de mi nuevo chal tejido en algodón...








I made this knit shawl by combining two strands of cotton (one DK weight and one thread).  Mostly I used the same color together (blue with blue, white, with white, etc.); but I also I combined two colors to make an ombre effect.  It was like painting with yarn.  The diagonal effect is made by increasing on just one side.  The pattern in found in Ravelry: Josephine. 
The model is my sweet aunt, who happened to visit while I was taking some pictures. Such a happy coincidence that she was wearing red and white!

Este chal lo tejí combinando un algodón liviano y un hilo fino.  En la mayor parte, combine hilos del mismo color, pero también mezclé colores para dar un efecto sombreado.  Estuve jugando con los colores, y eso hizo que fuera muy divertido tejer este chal.  El efecto diagonal resulta por hacer incrementos sólo en un lado. El patrón se encuentra en Ravelry: Josephine.
La modelo es mi tía, quien pasó a visitar en el momento preciso en que estaba tomando unas fotos, y casualmente iba vestida de rojo y blanco.

I made this cardigan from Marianna’s pattern: Rosebud.  The original has short-sleeves, but I made this one with long sleeves.  I used a light cotton in pink, and white for the border. 
Utilicé el patrón de Marianna llamado Rosebud.  El original tiene mangas cortas, pero esto lo hice con largas.  Todo está hecho en algodón liviano en rosado, con el borde en blanco.

Colorful Camera Strap

I played a bit with my yarn stash this weekend, and made a crochet cover for my camera strap…
Este fin de semana estuve jugando un poco con mis lanas acumuladas…y tejí una cubierta para la correa de mi cámara…









I thought the plain black strap of my camera was really boring, so I decided to do something about it.  I chose some blues, greens, purples and greys from my DK yarn, and began to make two colorful straps, all made with plain Dc rows, but made fun by changing colors. Then I simply joined both straps with sc’s in black, covering the original strap, which I secured by sewing a few stitches with a fine black thread.  Simple and fun!

La correo original de mi cámara me parecía muy aburrida, toda negra, sin gracia.  Así que decidí hacer algo para alegrarle.  Escogí unas lanitas de colores azules/verdes y morados/grises, y comencé a hacer dos tiras de puntos altos, intercambiando colores.  Luego uní las dos tiras con putos bajos en negro, y las cosí sobre la correa original.  ¡Simple y divertido!

I am having lots of fun mixing and matching colors.  And I confess I started joining before finishing all the flowers.  I could not wait to see how it would look with the white final row, which will make the background…and I am loving it!
Me estoy divirtiendo mezclando colores. Y debo confesar que comencé a unirlas antes de terminar todas las flores.  No podía esperar para ver cómo se vería el fondo blanco…y felizmente me gusta mucho.

Cable Neckwarmer (pattern)

This is a super simple knit neckwarmer, with two cables, made all in one long piece...  
Este es un cuello simple, tejido en dos agujas, en una sola pieza larga (encontrarán las instrucciones en español más adelante)...


CABLE NECKWARMER

Materials:
Bulky yarn [or two worsted yarn knit together]
Knitting needles 8mm
Cable needle (to make the cables)
Brooch or pin (to hold both ends together)
  
K                     knit
P                     purl
 *--*                 repeat from * to *
st                     stitch
RS                   right side
WS                  wrong side (back)
Cable 3/3       Slip 3 st onto a cable needle and hold to front of the knitting.  Knit the next 3 stitches from the left needle. Then knit the 3 stitches from the cable needle.




Instructions:
Cast on 22 stitches.

[Rib section]
Make Rib 2x2, in 14 rows…that is:
From rows 1-14> 
On right side (RS): *k2, p2*;
On wrong side (WS) : *P2, k2*


[Cable section]
15> (RS) k10, p2, k10.
16> (WS) k4, p6, k2, p6, k4
17> repeat row 15
18> repeat row 16
19> repeat row 15
20> repeat row 16
21> k4, cable 3/3 in the next following 6 st. [see definition above, in Stitch Glossary], p2, cable 3/3, and finish with k4.
22>repeat row 16



Repeat rows 15 to 22seven times[for 7 cables]. 
Finish the cable section by repeating rows 15 and 16:
> repeat row 15
> repeat row 16

[Final Rib section]
Make Rib 2x2, in 14 rows…that is:
From rows 1-14> 
On right side (RS): *k2, p2*;
On wrong side (WS) :  *P2, k2*

Cast off, and weave ends.



Now you are ready to use it…
Wrap around neck, and pin both ends together with a brooch.
[Idea: You can make a crochet flower with the yarn you used for the neck warmer, and sew it or glue it to a craft pin or an old brooch].

Terminar la sección de trenzas repitiendo las hileras 15 y 16:

Hacer resorte 2x2, en 14 hileras:

Termine el Cuello cerrando los puntos y escondiendo los hilos sueltos.

Ahora ya está lista para usar…
Coloque alrededor del cuello, y asegure las dos puntas con un prendedor o broche. [Opcional: Pueden hacer un prendedor personalizado con una flor en ganchillo con la misma lana del cuello.  Cosan o peguen sobre un broche o prendedor viejo].

Knit Bunny Hat

Last year I made a bunny hat in crochet, and again this year someone asked me to make another one…

El año pasado hice una gorrita deconejo en ganchillo, y ahora me volvieron a pedir que hiciera otro… 






My friend wanted the hat for a baby photo shoot.  She sent me a photo (no link nor instructions), and I improvised.  This one is made with knitting needles.  It is all in color cream, except for the inner ears which are beige.  It is so cute!


Me pidieron el gorro para una sesión de fotografía para un bebé.  No tenía patrón, pero lo improvisé.  A diferencia del otro, éste está tejido con dos agujas.  Todo es en color crema, excepto los oídos internos en beige.  Es tan tierno.

2 Long Hats

Dos gorras más, que serán utilizadas para una sesión fotográfica…









These hats have long tails, and a pompom at the end.  I made them from the tip down in crochet, using a light acrylic yarn (Dora), and hook 4mm.  You can find a similar pattern @ Ravelry: Long-Tailed Baby elf hat.

Estas gorras son largas, y tienen un ponpon al final.  Las hice en ganchillo, con una lana acrílica liviana, y un gancho 4 mm.  Pueden encontrar un patrón similar @ Ravelry (en inglés): Long-Tailed Baby elf hat [o pueden improvisar, como lo hice yo].

Around the World

I was invited by Kimberly Golynskiy (from 80skeins) to participate on a special blog journey called: “Around the world in 80 skeins” (inspired by the them of Jules Verne's novel, Around the World in 80 Days).  It is a blog project in which Kimberly combines two of her passions: yarn and traveling (both of which I love too). 





In her special blog (Around the World in 80 Skeins), Kimberly will be spotlighting knit/crochet bloggers and designers from around the world.  She will interviewed them on how culture and environment inspires design, among other things.  The Journey started in October 2014, and so far the following countries have been already featured:



I will be representing my country, Guatemala, and my interview will be featured starting today @ Around the World in 80 Skeins.  

Thanks, Kimberly for inviting me to participate in this amazing journey around the world, sharing our love for yarn.  I have truly enjoyed reading the stories of the fellow “yarn travelers”, and I am looking forward to meet the rest…

SOQUCO scarf

“Soft, Quick, Cozy”, also known as Soquco.  This is the name of a knit scarf/shawlette I found the pattern in Raverly, and I am so glad I did.  It is truly quick to make, and cozy to wear…
“Suave, Rápido, Cómodo”, conocido como Soquco (por sus siglas en inglés: soft, quick, cozy).









The pattern calls for 2 strands of light yarn, preferably merino, angora or alpaca, because of their lightness.  I actually did use just one strand of angora* [* 40% angora goat hair; 60 % acrylic], for the simple reason that we have mild winters where I live.  The shape of the scarf is an elongated triangle.  One starts knitting at the front tip, with increases on every row and every side.  When changing colors, the stripes come out horizontal (the opposite of the Baktus scarf). The original pattern is larger, which can be used as a shawl, but I made it smaller, as a scarf.  I am already planning to knit more of these…

En el patrón original se usan dos lanas livianas juntas, tales como merino, angora o alpaca.  Sin embargo, yo decidí usar sólo una lana angora (ya que nuestros inviernos son leves).  Esta bufanda tiene una forma de triángulo alargado, y se comienza a tejer en la parte inferior, y se va incrementando en cada pasada de ambos lados.  Al cambiar de color, las franjas salen horizontales (lo opuesto al Baktus).  El patrón original es para un chal, pero yo lo hice un poco más pequeño, como bufanda.  Ya estoy planeando hacer más de estas lindas bufandas…

COLORFUL EXPERIMENT

Sometimes I buy yarn for a special project, but other times I buy a yarn just because I like it and then I figure out what to do with it.  The latter is the case of this cowl…
A veces compro lana para hacer un proyecto especial, pero en otras ocasiones compro lana que me gusta y luego busco que hacer con ella.  El último caso es el de este cuello… 








I fell in love with the changes of color in the Bernat Mosaic yarn.  There are some cool color combinations, and I chose the “Vivid” colorway, with bright colors.  For balance, I decided alternate it with a dark grey mohair.  The result is a super light and fun cowl.  


Me enamoré de los cambios de color de esta lana: Mosaic, de Bernat.  Tienen combinaciones de colores muy interesantes, y yo elegí la version: “Vivid”, con colores vivos.  Para balancearlo, decidí alternarlo con una lana mohair en gris oscuro.  El resultado fue un cuello livino y divertido.

Bolero Girl

A friend asked me to make a top for her daughter.  She had a school party and special dress, but no top to match.  I suggested a bolero top would be perfect…
Una amiga me pidió que le tejiera algo para su hija.  Ella iba a tener una celebración escolar, y tenía un vestido pero necesitaba algo para cubrirla.  Le sugerí que un bolero sería perfecto…






 


I used a light yarn (Click by Sirdar), with a 4.5 mm hook.  I love the tweed look of the yarn. And she looks so cute!  I am thinking I should make one for a baby girl (hopefully soon!). 

Utilicé una lana liviana (Click de Sirdar) en color azul moteado, estilo blue jeans.  Tal vez haga uno similar para una bebé.

Crochet Beanies and Cowls

Crochet beanies in shades of blue…
Gorras altas en tonos azules…












Both of these hats are made in crochet, with two strands of yarn, in blue and cream shades.   One is a granny hat, with an Hdc rib.  For the other hat, I used the same stitch as the “Soft Infinity Cowl”, with a self-striping merino yarn.
Of course, I had to make matching cowls as well!  They are similar to some infinity scarves I made last year (Bulky Soft Infinity; MalabrigoInfinity; Soft Infinity Scarf), but this time I made them shorter as cowls and a bit wider (though not much because we have mild winters here, but it can be made as wide as you want).

Ambas gorras están hechas en ganchillo, con lana doble, en tonos azules y crema.  Una gorra está hecha con punto de la abuelita (granny).  La otra con el mismo punto utilizado en la bufanda infinito (patrón en You-Tube).  Por supuesto, también tenía que hacer cuellos que combinarán. Estos son similares a los que hice el año pasado (Bulky SoftInfinity; Malabrigo Infinity), pero esta vez los hice más cortos y un poco más anchos, como cuellos.

Hat & Cowl for a Boy

This is a knit hat and a cozy cowl for a boy…
Esta es una gorra tejida para un niño, y acompañado de un cuello alto…







Both are made with worsted yarn (Caron Simply Soft).  At the last moment, I added a pompom to the hat.  [No pattern—improvised from a photo sent by the boy’s mother].

Ambas piezas están hechas con lana mediana (Caron Simply Soft). al último momento le añadí un pompón.  [Sin patrón—inspirada en una foto que me envió la mamá del niño].
